Here lies some scans of an eight-page pamphlet given out by Live 105 containing the 500 (actually 501) songs from their countdown, probably over Labor Day or Memorial Day, 1988. I just found it in a cardboard box in a cupboard. It is not intended as nostalgia or some "the music and the memories" type shiite. It's all about curiosity (man). Hearing these songs circa 1988 made me curious about music and started me down that road to a rabid curiosity worthy of Jack Rabid. And as for some of the one-hit wonders I never heard, or only heard a couple of times, I have a lingering curiosity. Maybe some label like Rhino should be making _Pebbles_/_Nuggets_ style compilations about the musical underbelly of, say, 1986-1991. I don't think the ultracommercial "EIGHTIES MUSIC" comps tell the whole story.
It's weird to look at this playlist and think about all the wide-ranging and creative music that was lumped under the "modern rock" or "alternative" banner. I don't know if this is true, but I have the feeling that a Live 105 countdown contained some unique finds that only the San Francisco DJs were playing, in addition to the Depeche Mode/Cure/Smiths universe that was also being played on KROQ, 91X and _120 Minutes_.
All eight scans are about 150K.
